So you found this amazing deal at a garage sale or thrift shop??  Or maybe you have this really well built piece in your attic or basement but hate the finish, color, or hardware.  Well before you get started you should do you homework. 

First step to any successful project is to map out a plan.  This one step can save you time, energy and aggravation in the long run.  Time and time again we get clients that come into the showroom after refinishing a wonderful piece of furniture only to find out that the holes that are already in the pieces are not a "standard" spacing.  Most furniture manufacturers have hardware commissioned for their specific collection to whatever specifications they may want.  These sizes rarely coincide with the variety of hardware industry standards.  The old saying measure twice cut once is one to remember.  Measure the holes you have and do a little research before you begin.  This way you know if you should fill the holes or if you can find something that you love that will fit.  Often the old hardware can leave marks or indents that might not easily be sanded out so you may need to find a piece of hardware that offers more coverage, like the bin pulls in the photo above.  Larger pieces of hardware can hide previous indentations or imperfections.  Sometimes bringing one of the doors or drawers shopping with you can make all the difference in seeing what your options are and finding the prefect piece for your project.
